Skiing in Colorado

(over Thanksgiving, November 1997)

Five days before Thanksgiving we (Kai (performance group, red), Wolfgang (technical marketing, blue), me (consultant, yellow)) found a flight to Denver and a Ski package in Keystone, Colorado. The flight was 161$ and the package 483$  per person (including intermediate Avis rental car, a great condominium, ski rental (for advanced skiers), ski pass). We found this to be a more than acceptable price when we finally arrived and saw how great everything was; the weather, the place, the snow, the condominium,...

I highly recommend you take a virtual tour of the Keystone Ski area. You need a QuickTime plugin for your web browser. I usually don't like anything but pure HTML and pictures, but this is so great... You can choose one of the places on the map, than the plugin loads some data (ca. 125kByte per place visited) and than it is like controlling a camera. You can zoom (Cntrl- and Shift-Keys) and turn (360 degrees and a little up/down, use the mouse) your view. This is much better than viewing ordinary pictures. The web's become better han I thought.

Linux users have to install the Swallow Netscape plugin and a version of xanim that supports the "Radius Cinepak" format for QuickTime movies. Note, however, that the usage describtion above is invalid with this setup. The Windows version is much better, I must admit, with Linux you can hardly use the above URL.

Our condominium... ...had a real fireplace.

Unfortunately there's no picture of the outdoor pool (heated, of course). Swimming between ice and snow is fun, but as soon as you get out and touch a piece of metal (e.g. a door knob) you're attached to it, and the ground around the pool is extremely slippery (all ice).

I didn't look very happy that morning, because I had some problems with the dry and thin air (>11.000 feet) at the beginning. I could hardly see, that's why I was wearing sunglasses that morning. Kai made the breakfast.

I purchased a 240$ (without tax) North Face-jacket at REI just for this vacation. This is the most thing to wear I ever bought, after my business suit. Usually I don't spend more than 10$-30$ on clothes (per piece). I just hope I'll have some more opportunities to wear it.

I'm sooo cool... (the yellow guy):

Best Picture!

Night Skiing extends the possible hours for skiing until 9 p.m. Keystone is said to be the largest night skiing area in North America.
